Live in a busy city? Work around loud machines? Use earphones regularly at high volumes? Is this you?

Have you noticed that nowadays when you speak to some people at a normal volume, they do not hear you? Constant exposure to noise has a potential to lead to temporary or permanent hearing loss. It’s a gradual process that adds up to long term health effects. Therefore you need to be conscious of this. Unfortunately, some of us expose ourselves to this risk by our lifestyle choices. And the things we do affect our children by extension.

We need to begin to critically assess our workplaces, residential areas and lifestyle choices. What can we do to influence change?
Is there a place of worship with blaring speakers? Consider coming together with other residents to have a mutual agreement with the place of worship
Does your work involve loud machines? Speak to your organisation’s safety officer about personal protective equipment (PPE)

Do you always find yourselve sit close to speakers? Or do you use your earphones at high volumes? Readjust your choices

Remember, not doing anything could have dire consequences.
