Do you know that your child being in the same class as a child with special needs does not mean they will “catch” the special need?
Do you know some of our children think being friends with children with special needs will make them “catch” something and so they abstain?
School is officially back in session. The inclusion conversation is everywhere. You do not want to be left behind and so you’re already considering it but
1) What does your existing safety policy say? Do you have one?
2) What type of safety procedures exist in your school?
3) What physical structure or system is available to cater to existing safety needs?
4) How can this be expanded to ensure children with special needs also feel safe?
There are many safety issues in our schools today because a lot of us do things because our “competitor” is doing it without taking the time to do a thorough risk assessment and plan of your context. There is also a huge knowledge gap among adults and children. Since we cannot give what we do not have, my job is to bridge that gap so you no longer need to do things blindly on this issue
