Recently, I answered questions on Chidindu Mmadu Okoli’s podcast on fire prevention and actions after a fire. She lost a loved one recently to fire from an inverter battery explosion. You can listen here bit.ly/vso03
I’ve decided to share a brief reminder. The best way to fight a fire is to prevent it from happening.
For a fire to start, three things must come together in adequate proportion for a chemical reaction to occur (refer to third picture)
1) Fuel: this does not refer to just petrol or diesel, anything that can burn. This will include our clothes, furniture, paper etc.
2) Oxygen: we all need this to survive and it’s around us
3) Heat: Sufficient high temperature
But these things are around us every day but we’ve never caught fire, right? True but put them in a small cupboard or corner without adequate ventilation to step down whatever is producing heat and a reaction would happen. Just the way the three legs of the triangle must come together for fire to start, you must remove one of the legs of the triangle to ensure it’s not complete and the reaction wouldn’t start
Look around your home today, is the location of your generator or inverter inviting a fire? What of your gas cylinder? Do you overload sockets, “o ye pluggers of extension sockets in another extension socket?”. Was it a professional that installed your electrical outlets at home or did you just join some wires together in the name of DIY (do it yourself)
God protects but you have a role to play. Share to your loved ones.
