Importance of volunteering with your child

Importance of volunteering with your child
August 6, 2020 Ulomka

There are tonnes of summer camp activities springing up for children this month. As you begin to make plans for the ones your children will engage in, consider volunteering activities as one of them. This is the perfect time to teach your children the normalcy of doing things in the service of others and to create lasting memories with them. Let’s help them build a culture of volunteering.

It could be as simple as donating toys to the children hospital or donating clothes to the motherless. Whatever you decide to do, ensure you teach them why this is important and ensure safety precautions are observed.

  1. It enhances emotional development and fosters socializing and communication skills.
  2. It teaches your child life skills in practical terms such as kindness, compassion, team work and leadership.
  3. When families do it together, it provides opportunity for connection and talk. This creates beautiful memories for life.
  4. It teaches active problem solving as opposed to always sitting and waiting for help. This makes children want to make a difference in the lives of others.
  5. It helps them meet people from different backgrounds and teaches them not to take their opportunities for granted. This improves their worldview.

A well rounded child is the goal of social development because their experiences translates to all areas of life as they grow.

Would you consider involving your child in safe, age appropriate volunteering activities?
